The Dorset LNP is working with partners to roll out the Natural Choices Programme across Dorset. Starting in Weymouth and Portland (through the Natural Weymouth and Portland Partnership and the Dorset Coast Forum) Natural Choices offers individuals the opportunity to take part in gentle exercise outdoors.
There is growing evidence which demonstrates that being active within nature brings many benefits to both physical and mental health.
What is Natural Choices?
Natural Choices aims to support patients who fall within the low risk category of mental and/or physical health problems, such as low mood, mild anxiety, sedentary lifestyle, stress as well as those who want to get fitter and meet like-minded people. Natural Choices brings organisations and activities together under one banner so that it is easier for people to be signposted to a wide range of recognised providers who offer healthy activities using the natural environment.
Those who are within this low risk category can either be referred via their GP or make a self-referral to the LiveWell Dorset team who will highlight opportunities and activities within their local area to support their goals including those under the Natural Choices banner.
Activities due to start in the coming months
Activities are already available within the Weymouth and Portland area and are due to start across Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole in the coming months. Activities include natural health walks, conservation volunteering, gardening, and mindfulness in the natural environment.
